Burnish the "outside" of wheels with graphite too?

I seem to recall reading about people applying graphite to the outside tread (that contacts the track) with graphite. Do I have that correct? I always thought the outer tread should be as clean as possible, even using alcohol to clean?

It use to be. Some did this. I use too aswell.

However polishing was just what in the end or to date. Was all I was doing.

I did the rears some. But the front rail rider wheel I did a bit more polishing on it.
wanted the rears to have a bit more grip then the front.
Now some went to polishing there tracks. And made them super smooth. So polishing may not be needed due to that done to the track.

I just did it to reduce micro vibration.

Don't do it. You want the wheels, especially the rear wheels. If you hit a bump in the track you don't want the rear sliding all over the place because they're all slick with graphite.

Still burnish the inside edge of the DFW where it makes contact with the rail. After applying all my graphite I took a wipe the tread clean with iso-alcohol. Others even take a magic eraser to wipe clean between races.

no graphite on the flat surface that would touch the track if the wheels were level. Only areas that would rub the axle or car body and the very inside edge of the tread.
