Derby Talk

I admit to not knowing a heck of a lot about power tools and nothing about lathes or mills. Before taking the plunge and buying a lathe I wanted to learn a little bit about them. While surfing I came across this:

Barely scratching the surface of the site I found this tutorial:

I found it to contain a lot useful terminology on mills/drills/lathes. It may be a little old but hey, it's free Hopefully others may find a few useful things here too.

Great site! Thanks PWG. One thing I have learned is that the art of machine work has not changed much in a very long time. The first exposure I had to a metal working lathe was about 10 years ago. It was a HUGE WWII era lathe. The man who did our machine work was simply amazing with that thing. He was pretty old at the time (late 70's I suspect). His hands would be just shaking most of the time, but when he would start maching, his hands became rock steady! I credit him with getting me started in maching. I'm nothing great at it now, but I find the whole process fascinating.
