We came up with a cool twist for judging this year. We asked the local firemen and policemen to judge our cars this year. They judge the paint schemes, fastest looking, most unusual, ect. They didn't judge the races; we have an electronic timer for that
In exchange for their fine service, we gave each 4 cars to build and held Police v. Fire races. It turned out to be a big hit. They decorated their cars like squad cars and fire trucks as well as racecars. One of the fire trucks had shoelaces in the back that looked like hoses. Fire totally took the day, they only entered 3 of their 4 but took 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Now they have the cars mounted on old bowling trophies and on display at the township hall. They really got into it and the Scouts did too.
Run these races first. They might get called to work and it gives you a warm up round of racing. Although we didn't have them race first this year, we will next year.
Policeman and Fireman for judges
Re: Policeman and Fireman for judges
That's a great idea!! We've had the police at a few of our races, but it was to keep the peace between obnoxious parents

This is a really great idea. We will have to give this a try next year.

Really good idea. Some of the races I attend/judge are held at Fire Departments and FOP halls. I'll pass it along
