Awards Ideas

Post by gpraceman »

Well, I came up with a sample list of awards for GrandPrix Race Manager users and thought that I'd run it by y'all to see if there are some other great awards that can be added. I am not listing the typical 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awards for speed and design, just ones that would be given out in addition to those.

Design:
  • Best Detail
  • Best Driver In the Car
  • Best Muscle Car
  • Best Non-Car Design
  • Best Paint Job
  • Best Use of Color
  • Best Use of Imagination
  • Best Wheels
  • Best Workmanship
  • Fastest Looking Car
  • Funniest Car
  • Most Aerodynamic Car
  • Most Artistic
  • Most Colorful
  • Most Creative
  • Most Decals
  • Most Futuristic
  • Most Humorous Car
  • Most Original Design
  • Most Patriotic
  • Most Realistic
  • Most Unusual Car
  • Shiniest Paint Job
  • Smoothest Finish
  • Sportiest Looking
  • Strangest Shape
  • Best of Show
Speed:
  • Best Gas Mileage
  • Most Consistant Car
  • Fastest Car
  • Track Record
Other:
  • Best Sportsmanship
  • Best Crash & Burn

That's a great list. We try to hand out a certificate to everyone who participates. We put a picutre of the boy and his car on the certificate and create a title specific to each. We have used just about all of the ones you listed, plus a few more.

We always have a "Best Scout Theme".

Some of my favorites have been "Best Cartoon Character", "Best SuperHero", "Best Military Vehicle". "Best Fruit Theme" for a car with "Fruit of the Loom" stickers; "Best Sea Creature" for the always present shark; "Best Prehistoric Scene" for the Flintstone car.

As we are running short of descriptions, sometimes it ends up being something like "Most Interesting" for the vehicle you can't make heads or tails out of.
Always trying to learn, always hoping to teach.

Randy,

Thank you for the list. We will use this information as a baseline for our first derby. One question for you, do you award design trophies, robbons, medals, etc. for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, in each age group or rank?

Thanks,

We do award trophies for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in design for each rank and a Best of Show trophy. Then we have several certificate awards, like the ones that I listed.

You can do medals or ribbons instead of trophies for the big design awards, but if you are giving out trophies for speed you should give out trophies for the major design awards as well; otherwise, the design competition seems far less important. Not everyone can build a very fast car, so they should still be able to go for design so the design competition should be just as important.

Now, if we could only convince district and councils races to also have a design competition; otherwise, too much importance will be placed on speed at the pack level.

Thanks again Randy. Your input is great for next year. We certainly will balance the awards better.

I have drawn from the following web sites for our award certificate titles.

Each youth entry will receive a certificate, even the open class event for adults and siblings.
Use the first site for the certificate format and the second for further attributes to note and praise.
