The New Guy runs first Derby.

Post by Nooby »

First, I'd like to thank all of those who provided input on how to run a derby.

We settled on the no-chart elimination - using a 3 lane track.
3-rounds for the dens
5- rounds for the pack (all cars)

Therefore, most cars got to race 8+ races.
The entire race took 3 hours to run 39 cars.
- Last year took 2.5 hours to run about 60 cars double elimination.

There were some complaints about time - but most people (especially scouts) liked the extra racing. Keeping more scouts there longer helped our concession sales - which we use to offset race costs.

We used a magnetic white board with color coded (dens) numbered magnets. This helped people follow the the elimination system. This was very helpful since no one, except me, wanted to get rid of the old double elimination system.

My wife chipped in and made Race ID's for each kid with their car numbers
on the ID. - Kids loved the ID - and it made following cars much easier for parents and scouts alike.

I had a great support crew who kept the racing going.

Overall, people had very positive feedback on the no-chart system. The input from this group vastly improved the race experiance for our scouts.

Thanks :D
