Car kits needed in bulk

Post by Watch-out-for-that-frog »

I need to see how many wedge or basic cut kits we can get for $250.00 with some sort of weights? We have a large showing Fathers day where we are going to a center where fathers are well let’s say in need of help learning how to be fathers. My idea is to have the cars spray painted and all they have to do is put the weight and wheels on. And have magic markers so the kids can decorate them.

Please let me know how many kits we can get. THANKS!

Great chance to show how pinewood derby can bring a family in need together.

Here is a the link to the Official BSA website:

The Grand Prix car kits are $3.55 but you might get them in full cases for 10% less at a local supplier with the freight prepaid.

Grand Prix also offers a simple screw-on magnesium weight kit that we use in our low level workshops. I can't find them on the web but most BSA Council Scout stores stock them for a couple bucks.

So for $250 you should be able to purchase about 40 kits with weights???

This would make for a LOT of fun!

Pre-Cut Wedge kits are also available if this is more what you're after.

Check out Randy at:

Complete wedge kits are on the bottom of this page:

If it doesn't need to be BSA you could try doing a google search "Pine-Pro Wedge Kit". A lot of places sell bulk kits of 10 wedges/axles/wheels. Weights not included.

If you go to the pine-pro website http://www.pinepro.com/
they have a list of local dealers. Maybe you could get lucky and not have to pay shipping.

Check your local Wal-Mart to see if they have any kits left over from thier races. They are wedge stlye and should fit the bill. If they don't have any local they might be able to get some via the W-M foundation.

Keep up the good works!

If it does not matter whether the kits are official BSA kits, check out www.maketrackscompany.com for kits.

Their prices for 50 or more kits are $3.25 per plain block kits; preshaped kits for $4.50; $6.50 for deluxe block kits; and $7.75 for preshaped deluxe kits.

The deluxe kits come with stick on weights and the bottom routed out. It is possible with the preshaped deluxe kits to attach weights, paint the car, attach the wheels and axles and have a car that can run down the track in 30 minutes. They have 9 different body styles to choose from. The car won't beat one that has had the wheels and axles worked on, but it will run down the track and does not take long to put together - if that fits your needs this may be a good choice.

Good Luck

Walmart has races? Tell me more. Are these some sort of team building exercise that goes on internally?

You can always check with MaxV or other suppliers and see if they will give you a bulk discount.
