MW,

Two things.

First, if the rules clearly prohibit extended wheelbase and are delivered to the cubscouts at least two week prior to the event, it is the parent/child team that must make sure they are in compliance. If there is no place that prohibits the extended wheelbase in the rules, it should be allowed for that year and addressed at a future race. We can't expect teams to read out intentions.

Second, what I find is that anything that provides a substantial advantage should be evaluated to determine if it is detrimental to the type and spirit of the event we are trying to run for the pack. If it is not a detriment and we continue to allow it, the technique will soon become the norm (for anyone who participated in the previous years event).

If it is detrimental, in our opinion, it should be spelled out in the rules and enforced across the board. If our rules prohibit any modification to the stock wheel base, and one car has an extremely extended wheel base, it must be DQ. Likewise, if someone shows up with a car that, because of a slip of the saw, required the team to slightly shorten the wheel base, it also should receive a DQ.

I agree that there should be an open or outlaw class set up so that everyone who built anything can watch it go down the track.
