Wheel Mold Distribution and Mutant Wheel #14

Post by pack529holycross »

Here are the visual results of a 43 set purchase of wheels from BSA National. ( We actually purchased 100 sets, but these were the only ones I pulled for comparison of mold distribution within a known quantity of wheel sets ).

Here as an interesting little guy who was found in one set. It comes from Mold #14. I think it's unlikely that there is a new wheel design being contempated, so it's likely a goof, right?

Are these 2009s? The pic looks like they have mold marks on tread...maybe just dust.

Looks like that last one was just not enough plastic injected into the mold. You can see the 3 injection points and the 3 "wings" that radiate out from them. It would be interesting to have a car with a set of these. Wouldn't help performance, but would look cool.

That would make a great "raised wheel"! I would love to see the discussion at the race check-in, however...

The funky wheel is called a short shot and is simply a case of not enough plastic being shot into the injection mold.
