District/Council races - decorations

Here's a "decoration" idea that we are tossing around. Any suggestions on how to get the most out of it?
Cut car profile or oblique views from 1/8" paneling (better material choice?) scaled to about 4 feet long. Attach to lengths of 1X2 or 1X4 for rigidity. Prime. Recruit units / dens to finish in the colors and design of their choice. Hang on walls or under 8 existing area signs (If we size these right, we could hang several below each area sign.)
Hanging probably uses an eye-screw at each end of the car and two light chains hanging under the existing area signs. Use bent-wire hooks to attach cars to chains
We're considering possible recognition / competition. Also thinking of having some of the cars reworked each year but retaining most for display in subsequent years.
Variation - publish size and eyescrew location specs and let the packs/dens do the whole thing.
