Interesting! Were they the newer Chinese made ones?

:idk: I was show focused on the numbers, I didn't even pay attention. It was really hard to even find the number, if that means anything.

So are the Chinese made ones matched or the USA made ones?

Now I need to make up an excuse to give to my wife as to why I need to go "all the way across town" and look at them again. My dentist is over there, she'll by that one!

:sigh: Well, it had to happen sometime:
Intentional 4 wheel mold number matching is prohibited and unsportsmanlike.
(also mentioned here).

So, "intentional" mold-matched wheels are prohibited/unsportsmanlike, but "unintentional" mold-matched wheels are allowed/sportsmanlike?

So if I buy a package of replacement wheels because I know they'll be mold-matched, then that's prohibited/unsportsmanlike? But if I buy a package of replacement wheels because I lost or damaged my original wheels, then that's allowed/sportsmanlike?

I'm glad I'm not working the inspection table at that derby...

It is the Chinese wheels that appear to be mold-matched. The older USA-made Revell wheels do not appear to be mold-matched. FWIW, our local hobby store still had a few tubes of USA-made wheels left. Some differences in the wheels and packaging are described here.

When I picked up the wheel set's I got from Hobby Lobby that are the chinese
made revell wheels.

I recall seeing mold matched numbers 1-6
I Did some diging threw the tubs i have on hand just a min, ago..
And I have the mold numbers 1's And three set's 2's .

Diden't someone say thay had #3's & #6's (?)

As far as the usa made revell wheels I have thay are not mold matched.

If I had to guess, the wheels from Revell China are not really mold matched.
I'll bet more than one mold uses the same number, and the number signifies something else (plate, machine, assembly line, who knows?)

My mold matching pet peeve:
Our pack rules require replacement wheels to be purchased at the scout store.
(Yea... I don't think the inspectors can check for that, but I'm bringing the receipt to Districts just in case.)
My wife picked up a couple tubes for my son this year.
When we went to open them, the tops were already loose, and there was not a single 2, 8, 12, or 15 and no matching numbers.

Does anyone think it's sportsman-like for someone to crack open enough tubes at the scout store to create their own premium matched set?

MacD - nope, that doesn't sound 'sportsman' like to go through tubes and find the 'desired' wheels.

These are probably the USA-made wheels (Revell or BSA), which do not have a secure top and are not mold matched. The Chinese-made wheels are not only mold-matched, but securely packaged. The container tops fit over the tubes (on the outside) and the adhesive label secures the lid, such that one must practically destroy the packaging to get the wheels out.
