Extra stuff for little kids: Hot Wheels on the track

Post by roosclan »

I wish I could remember where I saw this, but a dad in the past couple of years posted that their pack/district/council/whatever ran a special race for the little kids where they could bring their favorite Hot Wheel car to race down the center guide rail on a Best Track. It apparently worked for them. I mentioned this to the district race folks yesterday and they loved the idea. However, when they tested it out, they could not get the Hot Wheel cars to fit inside the guide rail.

Does anyone remember reading about using Hot Wheels inside the guide rail, or how to make it work?

This really old topic was the only thing I've come across so far on Derby Talk...

(Maybe Randy can elaborate based on this.)

That post is too old to be what I saw, as I didn't start PWD with my boys until 2007. I'm wondering if it really is possible to do this, or if only certain cars will work...

I just checked some hotwheels cars on a chunk of track plating I have some of
the hot wheels cars will fit inside the guide rail and some will not.

Must be the older track plateing that was used.

I built my own 9 lane hotwheels track a long time ago using plastic roof sheeting. Standard hotwheels were a hair too wide so I ended up buying the cheap 100 car packs that they sell at BJ's, Costco, etc. Those cars are skinnier and run plenty fast.
