It is ruff. I just was trying to help you out and did not put much time into these videos.

comments:

I think removing the gearing for the nose and tail would easy some strain off of the motor. This will give more focus to the feet.

Add in some more juice to speed the motor up. do not see any internal room for the battery though. maybe some gripper material for the feet to get better grip on the floor and less play in the material that cover the feet. to reduce slippage of the plastic feet.

Is there any audio in the vid's. I can't hear any.

Yes there is audio, but you will have to turn your settings all the way up.

I can here it fine on my computer, but I have the volume up all the way.

That's the best I can do with the helmet cam, My older video camera requires conversion. Which I did not feel like spending a hour to do that.

This only takes me a few minutes.

I use a archos 605 with a helmet cam, It's used for feedback on our soap box derby practice runs.

They are boring to watch, but if you venture to do so, the idea of this is to see how the kids are steering, if they are holding there line, wiggles and sloppy steering. So they can see it and work on it.

As in the car, they really can not see the wheels on the car, very well.

If you can up size the pinion (gear on the motor) that will give the pig more speed, Or if you can downsize the spur gear (Gear that the pinion is against) that will upgrade the speed. I would'nt do both the pinion and spur though.

With a little gear mod and a 7 cell sub-c rechargable battery that sucker should all but fly. If at all possible wire the battery direct to the motor with a off/on toggle switch in between.

Do you have a freind who has a sub-C R/C battery and ajustable peak charger and maybe some different size gears?

This is now officially the coolest site on the web. I have never seen another group of guys that are obsessed with making things fast. I love it! As a kid we used to buy the little "stomper" monster trucks that worked off 2 AA batteries. We would use our 7 year old minds to come up with ways to make them faster. About the best we came up with to wrap the tires with masking tape until they were huge. We didn't understand why it made them faster but it worked. I know that this method is not practical in this case but it just brought up some good memories.
Anyway, I wish I knew off all you guys 25 years ago so I could have done more than waste mom's tape.

Im gonna have to get my own pig now. This is getting interesting.

Ive heard a lot of good ideas already. Things like bypassing the oink feature, and putting grips on the feet for traction.
Maybe you could add flames to the electric derby pig somehow.

Mmmmmm...bacon. Guess I'll have to go to the cafeteria at work tomorrow and get my fix. I haven't eaten bacon (cholesterol) in such a long time that I don't remember the last time. It's the only pig meat I can stand, anymore.

On a related topic, there used to be these football game toys where the players ran when the game board buzzed. From the '50s iirc. Those little pads on the football player's feet, when placed on the bottoms of the pig's feet (mmm...pickled pig's feet!) would make it go pretty fast. Or at least faster.

We had a soccer tournament all weekend and I was out of town yesterday, today I stopped by to see how Derby Talk was doing and I was amazed!

The videos are excellent and very helpful as well as all the post, thanks very much you guys!

I think we'll start by upping the voltage and I may rewind the motor with a few less turns, but still finding (hopefully) a balance between speed & torque. The "grippy" feet are going to be a must.

One concern that we won't know for sure is what the pig's center of gravity will tolerate -vs- speed. I'm afraid if we juice it up too much, he'll just skitter around and fall over. That's going to require some testing.

RE: the R/C car chasssis idea- that is one thing prohibited in the basic rules, he has to move under his own power.

There is also mention of the best school spirit and since they're the Wolves, I think I have an idea
