Congratulations to the infamous Stan Pope and all of Derby Talk on his 5,000th posting! :bigups:

It's been over seven years since Stan's earliest recorded post, back when Derby Talk was only a couple of weeks in the making. (So what took him so long to find it? ;) )

Thanks for all your contributions, Stan. We're looking forward to the next 5,000!

Thank you, FS.

Time flies when you are having fun.

Hopefully, most of those posts were more substantive than this one. :)

And, by the way, the picture is from 1996, back when I had hair! Can't seem to get a good recent pic ... too much glare. :(

Hmmm ... Well, I was 37 when my son was born (I could "do daughters" okay, but seemed to have trouble "doing sons!"), and he was 28 when his first son was born. In a couple of years, that grandson will be ready to race ... Hope I'm still ready, too!

Thank you! I hadn't noticed. :)

Grandson William is in kindergarten this year ... 1st grade next year. And his little brother Jack is trailing behind him by a few years. I'm hoping that my years of teaching "Youth Protection" will help offset National Council's current PR disaster in influencing Scouting participation here.

BTW, some of the dates given in national coverage don't jibe with the timeframes in which I was teaching "recognizing signs of abuse and reporting procedures" which I taught from National's syllabus in the 90's, 10 to 20 years before the 2010 date given in national coverage. And, during that time I witnessed revocation of "Scouting Credentials" of two good Scouters which, in my opinion, were "overly careful." (There was not a question of cover-up, since the events involved were "public" already.)

None-the-less, I'm distressed that the "cover-ups" will probably nullify much of the good work and reputation.
