Precision Milling Vise - For Sale (SOLD)

Post by gpraceman »

I've got a very gently used 3" precision "screwless" milling vise for sale, since I needed a bigger vise for use with my mini mill. Original cost was $70 for the vise and the hold-down clamps, plus a few bucks more for the allen screws and T-slot nuts. I am asking for $40 plus shipping.

I guess I should have updated this thread. These are sold.

I use the mini mill from Harbor Freight and like it quite a bit. I have yet to do any milling with it. Instead, I keep it setup as a drilling machine. I make up big batches of my car inspection go/no-go gauges and the the X-Y table really helps me to accurately position holes. I have several jigs that I made up which I clamp to the X-Y table to hold pieces while drilling.

It looks like the price has gone up significantly since I bought mine.

:(
I often wondered how such a tool would be for wheel sanding, maybe using a 'modified Teeeman method'. The X-Y vise, presumably square (?), is built in. It is a lot of money though.

They do have a micro lathe that might do well for wheels. It is much less expensive too.

The X-Y table is built into the mill. You can also get these separately and use with a regular drill press.

I'm considering picking up one of these. Have you used it for milling the area for weights or drilling axle holes? Any qualms about accuracy? I am trying to decide between this machine or the Proxxon drill press.

It can be quite helpful to get the block positioned just where you want it for drilling the axle holes.

For weight pockets, I find it easy enough to just clamp the block in a vise and slide the vise around by hand until the wood is nibbled out of the pocket using a Forstner bit. For workshops, I have the adult do the positioning of the vise, while the youngster is operating the drill press.
