Commerical's message = Kids should do it all on their own.

Where's the parent / child teamwork, learning, bonding in that?

That was a good learning experience for the child... 'if you want something done right, do it yourself' :D

The Subaru commericial seems to airing again as I saw it on TV tonight for the first time in a long while.
gpraceman wrote:I was more than a bit disappointed to see a "hands-off" dad instead of one at least giving his son some pointers on something like cutting out the car.
quadad wrote:Not sure anyone mentioned this, but I liked the fact that the kid who made his own beat the kid who apparently didn't touch his car until it was check-in time.
I noticed that, although for me it didn't overcome the disappointment that gpraceman expressed. Oddly, they chose to juxtapose two almost-unbelievable parental extremes (with the race also having a similarly unbelievable outcome). This was followed by the suggestion that the (unhelpful) Subaru-driving dad was "honest" and "virtuous" for having not lent a hand? Perhaps Nicholas expressed it best when he said the messaging is confusing.

I asked my wife "Does that commercial want to make you buy a Subaru Forester?" That they dressed up boys in Brownie uniforms didn't help Subaru's cause with her!

I have seen this now like 6 times on tv.

I like the idea of scouts / pinewood derby. But nothing was very real about it.

he odds that kid got that car to win, must have been some serious rigging for that staged video / commercial.

Scouts, as many are still at odds with pinewood derby being such a big deal and yet they promoted with Jeff Gordon a few years back and the whole theme of race into scouting !

They offer more and there focus is to make money from it, yet still convey the dad / mom / child doing it together.

Atleast it was on tv and it prmoted something in a positive way, they could have done many different things, So alteast scouts and pinewood derby were on tv for people to see.
