PWD winner categories and prizes
PWD winner categories and prizes
Can anyone suggest a list of non speed categories for the cars and appropriate prizes. I have seen best design, scouts fab, parents fav, safe driver award. What else. What prizes would you suggest. Thanks,
Seth

If it helps, some suggestions may be found within this topic. Also here.Noskills wrote:What else.
For something different, I liked the idea of giving away giant candy bars as a den award.Noskills wrote:What prizes would you suggest.
EDIT: Fixed link for "giant candy bars".

Re: PWD winner categories and prizes
We give out trophies for the following appearance categories at our Pack race:
- Fastest Looking Car
- Coolest Car
- Most Humorous Car
- Most Unique Car
- Most likely built by a Scout
- Most Patriotic
- Best of Show (most votes total in all categories, but didn't win a category)
The Scouts themselves vote on the cars.

We have a traveling trophy for the fastest overall Den. The Big Wrench gets the winning Den Emblem and date put on it. We make sure that it's the most important trophy of all.
Other awards can be adjusted for the size of the group and type of awards that would be most appropriate.

Re: PWD winner categories and prizes
This year, each age group will have a 1st place speed trophy, 2nd & 3rd place speed medals, a "Best of Show" design trophy, and "Best Automobile" & "Best Unusual" design medals.
We've found it important to have separate "automobile" and "unusual" design awards. Otherwise, the kids who build beautiful automobile designs never get design awards, because the judges tend to reward the creativity of the unusual designs.
I also think it's important to keep the design awards comparable to the speed awards, and to keep them independent of each other (a fast, good-looking car can win 2 awards).

Darin,
Thats a good comment about keeping the awards comparable. I just made the mistake of suggesting trophies for pack winners, medals for scout level winners and ribbons for design. As this is a new idea for our pack perhaps i will go with this for now but push for a larger spend next year.

Re: PWD winner categories and prizes
We always have a parent or two who are police officers. We do a PWD derby jail and arrest heat winners. Our police parents, handcuff them and take take them to our storage closet we decorate as a jail for a photo op. Kids and parents love it.
Someone last year posted it here and I stole it. Thanks!
Not really an award but they do get thier picture taken behind fake bars holding a sign saying arrested for speeding!
We arrested our PWD chair too!
