Build a Winning Pinewood Derby Car.Troy Thorne.2013

Has anyone gotten this book? Is it worth getting? Is there anything new that isn't in "Building the Fastest Pinewood Derby Car" by Troy Thorne in 2012?

Besides Woodcraft, who offers it? The few online references I've been able to access show it as unavailable. That said, the UPC on the front (instead of the back) implies that it might be a magazine formatted version of the 2012 book, possibly marketed to woodworking or hobby shops, such as this 2011 example.

I went ahead and ordered it from Amazon. Apparently they had only one. It should be here in a few days and I'll see what it says.

Speedsteer,

I think in this one he tuches on beginning car construction..
to some ultimate prize winning modifications... And basic techniques for cutting patterns...
To attaching and lubricating wheels... To blancing the weight... And takeing advantage of the most
up-to-date supplys, methodes & meterials.

I haven't seen this new 2013 edition book..
so i don't know if it's any different as far as new things.

Say Congrat's ... I hope to see them in the book guys.

I did pick up the 2013 edition
pinewood derby patterns and painting work book sometime back at home depot.
It was somewhat different from the books already out.. with a few more ideas on finishing tips
and some different car patterns also.
What type of automobile can be spelled the same forwards & backwards?

OK, ah. You can't just say, "We are supposed to have pictures of 3 of our cars in this issue". There's got to be a Great story behind that. Is Troy your neighbor?

Troy PMed me through DerbyTalk asking if I would like to show some of our cars in the gallery section of the 2013 version of the Pinewood Derby magazine. I emailed Troy and said I would be delighted to have our cars in the magazine. I then dealt with an editor to find out which cars they wanted to feature. Found the picture files of the cars they wanted and emailed them over.

All of these cars have been shown on DerbyTalk (the only one that has not ever been shown is the Superbird - it was the first car I built with my son).

No great story, no neighborhood connections, sorry.

That is Super Great. CONGRATULATIONS ! ! That's quite an honor. I'll show your cars at our workshops and maybe it will influence the scouts and parents to join Derby Talk.
Best,
Bill

This book uses the exact same pages as "Building The Fastest PINEWOOD DERBY CAR". However, instead of 133 pages it is 95 pages. Patterns and other things are left out. On the last page there are 3 other books listed. One of them is "PINEWOOD DERBY Pattern & Painting Workbook". On the cover is a light Blue Superbird #43, a Black type dragster, a Black Rod with Yellow and Red flames and a Blue Rod convertible. I'm assuming these are cars belonging to ah8tk. The cars are displayed nicely.
If given a choice I would buy the 2012 book.

I have it and the design guide, and got it last race cycle in December or January. It's the same old info. I did appreciate the weight info for the body designs in the design guide, but beyond that it was all info I was already familiar with from other resources.

And yes, they were being sold as a magazine, but as I said, I bought them during last race cycle. I bought mine at Lowe's Home Improvement.
