I had been looking for an excuse to have a labmate teach me carbon fiber layups. What better reason than the coolest pinewood derby car ever?
This also probably isn't technically legal because they can't inspect the axle slots or the wheels without taking the shell off. The shells come off fairly easily, but there is so little clearance between the wheels and the shell that it is a bit of work to get it back on right.
P.S. This is my car, not my kids' cars. They did their own and will probably beat this one. This was for show, not necessarily speed, and I spent so much time on the carbon fiber that I didn't even align wheels.
