Using GPRM, RaceReplay and RaceFX together

Post by Rfieldbuilds »

Randy,

So this year, we plan to run (1) four lane track with GPRM 14 and just plan on getting our staging personnel to keep a tight game to keep our event down to 2-2.5 hours. We typically see about 50+/- racers. I also am integrating the Race Replay and Sound effects software.

Shall I install both of them on one (separate) computer and keep the GPRM 14 on the main computer with a network cable between the two?

Would you recommend one or two people to monitor the two computer setup and manage the video replay on one computer, and another to monitor GPRM to keep event moving smoothly?

In any event, which computer should have and play the race effects software to be least intrusive to the software assignment they are performing?

Seeing as my questions are totally off base from my original post, would it be best to start this as a new post?

In terms of using GPRM and RR, it really depends on your number of projection systems. If you have only one projector, then you need to run both programs on the same computer. Having two projectors (one for GPRM and one for RR) is ideal, as you don't have to split time between showing the heats results and doing the replay. That may save you some time each heat, as the replay and the results are showing at the same time, just on different screens. In that configuration, you need two computers that are networked together.

If using both RCFX and RR in conjunction with GPRM, both RCFX and RR would need to run on the same computer. In local mode, the messages from GPRM only get sent to programs listening on the same computer as GPRM, whereas in network mode, the messages get sent to the designated computer IP address.

Manning the race computer will depend on what timer you have. If the timer lets GPRM know when the gate drops, you don't really have to man the race computer after you kick things off. That assumes you are running in hands-free mode. Of course, if you are not running in hands-free mode, you need to man the race computer all of the time.

Randy,
Thanks for straightening out this post and setting it up as a new topic. It is better info for me and all DT users!

We do plan on obtaining two projectors, although I only have one available at present.

Can you elaborate on this?
"If using both RCFX and RR in conjunction with GPRM, both RCFX and RR would need to run on the same computer. In local mode, the messages from GPRM only get sent to programs listening on the same computer as GPRM, whereas in network mode, the messages get sent to the designated computer IP address."

We are running the Micro Wizard system on a wood track with The Judge solenoid system starter and of course GPRM.

GPRM sends messages out to the specified destination (race computer or to a networked computer). If you want RR and RCFX to hear those messages, they need to be on the computer that those messages are directed at. To use a phone call analogy, GPRM makes phone calls to the specified destination, it does not make conference calls to multiple destinations.
