Cimarron River District Cub/Scout Mobile Race.
Wikipeda discribes the Cimarron National Grassland to be a place like this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cimarron_N ... _Grassland" target="_blank
The U.S. Department of Agriculture & Kansas Travel:
Discribes it as a place where twenty three miles of the Santa Fe Trail cut across the grassland.
(Useing the map seen at the bottom of their web site.)
http://www.kansastravel.org/cimarronnat ... ssland.htm" target="_blank
I'll discribe the very place we held are race out on Cimarron National Grassland.
Just look at the middle of the map for road 16.. see the two charted trail headings?
Were racing right in the middle of these headings.
It was a cold and windy day with the wind blowing out of the north and the temp in uper 30's.
so are turn out for cars wasen't as many as we hoped for.
(With only 3 cars and lots of drivers what do you do?)
We all decided to put the smaller kids on the Cub Mobile car with an adjustable front steering axle.
And the taller kids on the older version.. & to let all the kids that could reach the brake handle..
on the outlaw car that I was told to build for this race .. Race the car.
(And that's just what we did!)
Getting all the cars to cross the finsh line was a little hectic at first with the distance we all were hopeing the cars would go.
But the 3rd time of moving the ramp closer to the finsh line was the charm.
All in all at the end of the day all the effort put forth from all of us to make the race happen..
Was well worth it.. no kids were hurt.. And no cars were crashed.
Though I as the race chairsman was almost ran over..
by a kid who's car turned very sharply while rocketing off the ramp.
The ramp.
The kids helping a troubled racer out.
and a few more photos.
back up the hill:
The kids loved driveing this one.
even us adults had to have are fun!
even the Vice-Chair had to take a run.
more kids in race.
Man could this girl drive she was the outlaw winner!
The Cimarron River District Commissioner
passing out the traveling trophies.
The kids and the trophies

That is TOO COOL ! ! !
What speed do you think your machine reached? How far did the cars travel from start to finish?

Speedster,
When the ScoutMobile Vice-Chair first picked out this place out on the grassland..
He put his Chevy truck in neutral letting it roll down the mile long hill he said it hit 20mph.
When he showed me the place he had picked out..he had me put my 3/4 ton ford super duty
in neutral rolling it from a dead stop down the hill it hit 20mph as well.
In the video 20mph as well at frist down the steapest part of the hill
as you see the car geting closer in the video i'd say it was running somewhere around 12 to 16 mph.
As for the kids Cub/ScoutMobile cars...
We were hopeing for somewhere around 250 feet down the hill to make it fun for the kids.
Even though we knew most CubMobile tracks are only 150 to 130 feet depending on the hill.
I'd say the kids were going somewhere around that mark after moveing the ramp 3 times.

Thank You FatSebastian.FatSebastian wrote:"Ohhhh, sweet!"
Was I ever put to the test to get a car ready and a ramp built so we could have this race.
I even went a little bit out of my way to ask the car dealerships and tire shops around my area
for some junk car parts to make some extra trophies with for the kids.
I never knew that chairing for a race could be such hard work..
With such great rewards in knowing that I did my best to make it a fun day of racing for the kids.
Despite all the problems we had getting the race going..
We all worked hard at making the race happen.
And I had more fun watching the kids drive and cheering for them all.
And I hope to do another race soon.
