SAFETY
SAFETY
I looked through several web sites and alot of photos of other Cubmobile races or events.
I was not very pleased in seeing so many, un safe cubmobiles.
Wide spacing on the steering blocks.
No seat belt.
No seat support sides.
No foot board.
Races where there was no race lane seperator.
I do feel there needs to be a national set of basic rules. Safety reasons !

Re: SAFETY
At least some knowledgable parents that can see the unsafe points and correct them.
Re: SAFETY
Right,
I just want to point it out and bring it to there attention.
Perhaps some of the packs that post, will run across this forum and re think a few postings.

Re: SAFETY
There are two places one might look for relevant information:
1. Guide to Safe Scouting (G2SS), and
2. The Cub Scout Leader How-To Book.
G2SS deals in principles and in specifics. It probably won't get into details of specific programs such as PWD or CubMobiles, but the principles will be applicable.
The How-To Book probably is the primary mechanism for communicating about CubMobile program, both gravity powered and Push-Powered. Check it out ... and if you think that it is insufficient in terms of safety procedures, draft material to fill in the gaps and send it on to National!

Re: SAFETY
Good question! No, I don't... and it is not listed on the National council website.sporty wrote:Do you have that adress ?

Your local council deals with National on a daily basis, and should be able to tell you how to best communicate to the responsible part of the organization. If you have a good write-up, you Council Exec may add a cover letter commending action as well.

Re: SAFETY
Couldn't agree more!
We said "forget foot steering" this year, see my other post for the design.
We are adding a Celica (about an '85 model) front passenger seat-shoulder belt.
I plan to improvise some side-bolster padding on the seats too prior to race day (not shown in the CAD model).

Re: SAFETY
Clemens,
Right, I seen on the other post that your race had alot of wrecks.
This is my overall fear. That this event may decrease, due to safety measures not put into place to prevent wrecks.
And that would be sad, as I feel this event is in many ways, more fun than the PWD race.
The kids have alot more involvement with type of event compared to a PWD. But Cubs scouts needs to get there behind in gear and stop dropping the ball and get a more standard set of rules out to the 3,000 plus cub scout packs out there.
