Trying to help the guy get setup to take over our packs pinewood as I transistion out.

The timer is not dumping times into GPRM. I suspect the problem lies with the USB to Serial Adapter.

The USB to Serial info say's it's on COM4 and GPRM is reading COM3 and there is not an option to change it to 4 on the drop down.

I also don't know if him downloading any demo versions before I could get him our pack's disc are having any effect on the situation.

There is also a peculiar message under the device status.

The device cannot start. (Code 10)
(Not enough Quota)
Not enough virtual memory or paging file quota is available to complete the specified operation.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Hold off on any help.

My gut tells me it's the USB adapter, that it may not be compatible with Windows 8 or the incorrect driver is installed.

Will check drivers tonight and ordered a newer cable as a possible backup solution to the problem.

A driver issue would make sense.

GPRM may list COM3, if it is the modem port for the computer.

All resolved for the time being. I will change the title from "Window 8 and GPRM V11?" to " Window 8 and Prolific Chipset USB to 9 pin Serial Adapter?"

I hope this may help some others.

Here is what I found;

Windows 8 - automatically goes out and grabs the latest driver for anything you plug into the machine.

Our USB to 9pin Serial Adapter is probably 3-4 years old and apparently has an older Prolific chipset in it, that doesn't play nice with the latest driver and windows automatic update.

Solution

Disable automatic update in windows 8

Uninstall old driver

Install old version of driver for the cord.

I'm glad that you got it worked out.

This will definitely become more of an issue as people with older adapters move up to Windows 8 machines.

Thanks Randy.

That's why I went thru the trouble of posting the morsels of good stuff that i dug through to make it work.

I'm sure the easy answer for some is just to purchase a new cord compatible with Window 8.

I have one coming as my backup plan, but it will not be needed for now.

We transitioned to a Windows 8.1 laptop this year. Also had serial to USB issues.

I just purchased a new serial adaptor that was compatible with Windows 8.1 and all worked well. I had gotten the older one to work after driver manipulation, but felt it would just be easier for folks down the road if they had a device that worked with Windows 8.1.
