For the races last Saturday, I settled on a mix of

"Real Gone" - Sheryl Crow (From the movie Cars)
"Life is a Highway" - Rascal Flatts (From the movie Cars)
"Route 66" - Chuck Berry (From the movie Cars)
"Little GTO" - Jan and Dean
"Highway Patrol" - Junior Brown
"Little Deuce Coupe" - The Beach Boys
"409" - The Beach Boys

I stayed away from "Greased Lightnin" and "I can't drive 55" because of the lyrics.

Everyone seemed to like it and I think it added to the fun.

This was our first year with a timer system and it really added to the fun.
We have a 40' Piantedosi Freedom 3 lane aluminum.
Microwizard Timer with Microswith starting gate.
Raveview Softare.

We ran 46 races for 22 cars in 59 minutes and really took our time between some races. The lowest time was a 2.997. The final 3 cars were competative. There was less than 1 car lenght between them.

Thanks for the musical advice. We used many of the same songs at our derby this year.

The boys and crowd really seemed to like those songs.

I will use them next year at our pack and district races. I might try to come up with some others.

What other songs did you use?

After running nearly 100 races, we have come to the conclusion that the music pre-show has to appeal to all generations from grandparents to the boys. Because of that we use a wide mix of music from polkas to rock and roll.

I appreciate the contributions here since I picked up a couple new ideas. I have also included our playlist. We obviously don't play all the songs on the list, but like to keep the mix fresh for us as well as the crowd.

We are now recording most of the Radio RACE pre-show broadcasts and posting them to our websites. The real goal here is to entertain the adults. We keep the music more laid back until race time, when we rev it up a bit.

I tried to keep all of the music somewhat related to cars or racing.

I did not think about the them from the Dukes of Hazzard.
We had two General Lee cars in our event this year, but we are in the South.

Freeway Jam by Jeff Beck is a good instrumental; catchy tune for a derby.

We used the original cartoon theme for Speed Racer, Eruption from Van Halen (it's short and the boys got into the guitar) and because we're in Louisville we played the "call to the post" before each session.
That was pretty cool, we had a big crowd and as soon as that bugle call started people immediately focused on the track and cubs.

ALways wanted to use Mark Wills - And the Crowd Goes Wild, when our class of stock cars drove on the track.

Would work well here too.
