BSA Certidfied Derby Book

I recently purchased a book, from the local scout shop, for my son on how to build a better pinewood derby Car. My son & I used alot of the tips mentioned in the book. One tip that we used is the "Quick Start", it gives a little advantage when all the cars start off. His car has a U shape at the front with a a paper clip bent and it is suppose to rest up against the starting peg, giving it a little advantage for a quicker start.
One thing I am the Cubmaster and the head of the Pinewood Derby Committee. Of course this is not spelled out in the rules whether we can use this tip or not. I am concerned on race day if my son's car does win he will be accused of cheating, even though we received this tip from a BSA certified book. What do you guys think. Should I get my son to modify the car? Or just keep it like it is and if there is any questions have the book to back me up?
Thank you.
