Pine Wars is on! - Need Side Activity Ideas

Good morning all,

Another Year another Derby! My son and I have had so much fun the first two years of Scouts that me and a couple of other leaders have stepped up to coordinate this years race. To scout it up and generate some Scouting buzz we are holding a Star Wars themed event - Dubbed 'Pine Wars' One of the other Leaders is a Web/APP designer and he even came up with a preview trailer for the event that was debuted at the December Pack meeting. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPx9faaYmzg" target="_blank The Derby will be in January and we are still trying to come up with at least one other side activity that is tied to the theme, but does not distract from the racing. We already have a car stand building area that is ALWAYS a favorite of the boys. The pack is approximately 100 boys and we are expecting about 85 - 90 to attend. What suggestions do you have to add to the Derby?

In keeping with the theme, the activity might benefit from a title that sounds closer to "Star Wars" ( maybe "Car Wars"?).

What suggestions do you have to add to the Derby?

You already seem to have one popular side event. Something that is potentially quick that doesn't require a lot of focused attention would seem ideal. In the past, we have taken photos of the kids through a "photo op" like this (where they stick their face through a hole in a panel), which was well received, so maybe have a Star-Wars themed photo op?

The photo op idea can be fun. A few gimmick rallyes have included photo ops at the start or at a checkpoint. For a Star Wars themed derby, all you really need is one of those life-size cardboard cutouts of Darth Vader. Or Yoda. Or any of the other Star Wars characters. Stand the kid next to the cutout and take the photo.

Darth Maul Face Painting? (make a template)
Light saber duals? (use foam swords)
Magnetic Levitation cars?
Parabolic Coin Well?
Remote control robot/car obstacle course?
Blind-folded Cub obstacle course?
Pin the tail on the ton-ton?
Jedi warrior obstacle course?
