QUESTION ON ARCH ; BEST TRACK VS PAINTEDOSI

Post by TAL »

Hello again, In reference to the arches from starting gate to flat surface on the tracks (40 ft paintedosi , 42 ft. best track).......If a car was build and tested to run it's best on a 40 foot paintedosi track would the car in general perform better or worse on a best track? (considering the arch difference in the first 12 foot of the tracks)
Would the weight need to be more forward or more back to perform better on the BEST TRACK ?
Let's just say a basic wedge cut BSA stock car no extended wheel base no extended front ends for the test car example.......

I've never run a car on a 40 foot paintedosi track to compare but....

There is alot more to it than where the weight will need to be placed...
One thing changed on the construction of a car will cause a ripple effect and make it so you need to change other varibles in relation to moving the weight around forward or backwards.
Weight placement is a major factor to consider in the construction.
If one builds a basic car or even a complex car you still need to do the same things to make the weight placement correct in order to obtain maximum speed in any distance. It's not just solely dependent on the weight placement itself. Alignment, friction points, wheels also will make a car run different.

The starting height and angle are essentially the same for the two tracks, so the weight placement is essentially the same. However, the sharper curve on the BestTrack increases some of the forces during the transition, so for top performance some fine tuning would likely be needed.

Note that the length of the two tracks are different, which would have a greater affect on perfromance (IMHO) than the curve.

Thanks for the speedy replies..... Our 40 foot paintedosi track with factory microwizard drilled holes has a running surface length of 37 foot 6 inches from starting peg to finish line ... I'm sure you can order any running length for either track (starting peg to finish line drilled timer holes ) ...

But what is the standard factory running length on the 42 foot BEST TRACK (starting peg to finish line)?

We also read that the sharper curve on the BEST TRACK actually amplifies any minor flaws in the car and in someways is a little more tougher on the cars due to the sudden impact of the arch on the best track...........
Is there truth in this .........

The Best track does bring out a cars imperfections more than the gradual slope of the Piantedosi. A car tuned on a Best track should perform well on the Piantedosi track, but the reverse is not necessarily so.

The Best track length is 36' 11.5" start to finish.

Extensive testing by our company has shown there to be very little if any difference in performance between the BestTrack formed curve section and a flexible track curve section. Be sure when comparing curves, to reference the curve on our web site and not the misrepresented picture of our curve on a competitors' web site. The misrepresented curve has not been produced for over 3 years, but we can't seem to be able to get the competitor to fix his web site.

An accurate comparison between curves can be seen at:

But the point could be made that you did produce that curve and thus it is a fair representation of a Best Track Curve that one might find out in the field. ;) Thanks for joining in Derby Talk!

Point taken, but would it be accurate for Chevy to compare their new 2007 pickup with Ford’s 2003 pickup, because you might find one like that out in the field?

When someone is researching a new purchase, it is only fair to give them accurate information; otherwise, you are just wasting their time.

Besides, we have updated the curve section for anyone who requested it, (free of charge, which is an example of our lifetime warranty) leaving few old style curves remaining out in the field. This would include the curve sections we sent to the competitor to replace the misrepresented curves in his picture.

For more information, we invite you to see us at www.besttrack.com .
Thanks! We appreciate your comments.

We have a 42' Best Track and race on a alum Piantedosi 40' track.

Our times are considerbly faster on the Pian then the Best Track. Otherwise I think they are very similiar. I do think the joints between the segments are smoother on our pack Piantedosi than our BestTrack so I think a rail rider would do better on the Piantedosi. But don't have data to prove this.

Had a chance to run on a Best track side by side and we saw the same thing the freedom track is faster.

We just did another derby here is the lanes stats for the Plan 40" 6 lane track.

This is what you want a even playing field.

I would be more curious to see the differences from one lane to another for a single car. Or the average difference for say the top 10 cars.

Our pack race was on a 40' aluminum pianadosi this year. I grabbed the average for the top 12 cars for each lane. Here are the results:

Lane 1 3.008
Lane 2 3.010
Lane 3 3.005
Lane 4 3.003

So the difference from Lane 4 to Lane 2 was .007. Which was the biggest spread.

That is pretty impressive.

The standard deviations on that 40' Pian are not too good. . .

there are tracks that are much more consistent. . .

Check out some data from a 64 ft Challenger.

http://www.pwdracing.com/results

Most races have a typical std dev that is less than half of the Plan on a much longer track with more cars.

I can tell when we get a car that loses it wheels/weights/etc and the repair is not as good as the original -- races with a wide range in the max times.

The Pack 111 were on a BestTrack -- first Pack race on it so they did well.
