Re: RoadRunner Modified
Wow, do you know how much the wood alone weighed? What kind of weight did you use? Did you measure where the COM is?
I'm thinking of building a new car for the District Open Div and I was thinking of something along this line.
Absolutely beautiful.

Re: RoadRunner Modified
Gameday,
The wood alone was 22grams. Balance point is .875" in
front of rear axle centerline. I'm too cheap to buy tungsten or
as the experts call it= "W" Just old melted tire wgts poured
into a pre-shaped cavity...... Gotta love the price-FREEE

Re: RoadRunner Modified
Where are you going to race the car? Open category? WIRL? Do you have a 3/8" ground clearance rule?
Looks cool. Really like the green paint.

Re: RoadRunner Modified
Cool car, but definitely would not comply with any race rules calling for a 3/8" clearance.

More and more groups take the approach that your group
does Randy, if it fits the track then let it race.
Some times it's just fun to try new ideas.

Re: RoadRunner Modified
Actually I think this makes a lot more sense. 3/8" of clearance is not necessary on most modern tracks. But I almost still always see the rule. I know WIRL has this rule for all classes. PDDR uses the actual height as their rule which is 1/4"

If you read the caption (in white) PDDR allows the body to
ride lower inside the rails for this class. RoadRunner was
built to do just that.

Cool track cross section. Allows for some interesting "low CG" designs.FAST Racing wrote:If you read the caption (in white) PDDR allows the body to ride lower inside the rails for this class. RoadRunner was

Is the center channel "clear" for the entire length of the track?
Forgive my ignorance, strictly a "wood on wood" racer at this point.

Yes. This is a cross-section of a Best Track. More and moreGo Bubba Go wrote: Is the center channel "clear" for the entire length of the track?
groups are replacing "Ol' Woody" with the faster more
consistent aluminum tracks.

Re: RoadRunner Modified
Cool car, but definately not legal in our Council. Reminds me of "Shock Wave" PDDR car.
I have managed to get a full 3oz of tungsten below axles on this year's car, and the rest very close to being even with the axles, and still have 3/8 inch clearance.
It wasn't easy. At least, not for me. But then, I'm workworking impared.
Good luck with your PDDR car! There is no way I could build something like that!

Re: RoadRunner Modified
On a Piantedosi Freedom aluminum track there are button head hex screws to join the track sections that would be an issue with that small of a center rail clearance.
Neat design by the way!
