ZEP DRY GRAPHITE???
ZEP DRY GRAPHITE???
Has anybody tried using Zep Dry Graphite (Dry Film Lubricant) on their axles? It's easier to get it on then the powder since it sprays on but I don't want to put it on my kids' cars if it's not any good or illegal. Any help or advice out there would be much appreciated. Thank you everybody!

Zep has some wonderful products.
I no longer sand or apply anything to my axles. I depend entirely on the shiny zinc coating that comes on the axles. Any graphite that gets on the axles comes when I lube the wheel bores.

I tested it on a spare wheel and axle. It melted the wheel to the axle.

More than likely what melted your wheel bores was the propellant in the aerosol can. If you spray the axles and let them dry for 30 minutes or so before putting them in the wheels, I bet that won't happen.

ZEP DRY GRAPHITE???
zep dry graphite.. Has trichioroethylene, propane, butane, and propan-z-ol that is ( isopropanol) then graphite.
trichioroethylene: is a solvent to remove grease from metal.
concentration is >=50-<70 ..propane is >=10-<20 ..butane is >=10-<20
( All of this could be what caused your melting problems.. as Skywalker points out as propellant.)
propan-z-ol
(just another word for Isopropanol alcohol) 5-<10
graphite >1-<5

Anything liquid combined with graphite I have read will alter the way graphite slides in microscopic plates over itself. Liquid anything will seemingly alter graphite's effectiveness. Stick with Derby Dad for Hire graphite ranked #1, or Hob-e-lube with Molybdenum added to it ranked #2.

Ranked #1 by who, out of curiosity?AaronS wrote: ↑Tue Mar 06, 2018 11:44 am Anything liquid combined with graphite I have read will alter the way graphite slides in microscopic plates over itself. Not discounting that it is quality stuff, mind you.
I have also heard that Hodges Hobby makes a good graphite blend.

All this talk about graphite reminds me of when I won my first pinewood derby...my Dad put so much graphite on my car, I had to wash my hands every time I handled the darn thing!
