Re: How come no one puts aerodynamic "fenders" on cars?

I see on average around 0.006 to 0.01 sec drop in time on my 42 ft Best Track. I use to mount the fenders with double sided sticky tape when testing. Now that I know for a fact it increases the speed, all fenders are epoxied onto the car during the build before painting. Since all my fenders are mad...

Re: Ever polish a best track?

I polished mine with NeverDull wadding polish and then went over the whole track again with Mother's Billet polish. Here is a quick video of the polished vs. unpolished. It really made a slick surface, the cars were slightly faster with no sliding around and it's super easy to wipe down now. http://...

Re: New BSA Wheels - More Specifications by Mold Type

hwsjr - that was a very fast car you guys had. It was very smooth and fast. No wiggles, just hooked up and screaming down the track. The only thing left you guys could try would be adjusting the rear axles. Most of the time, I can find a little more speed by rotating the rear axles around. You could...

Re: Favorite Paints

I use HOK (House of Kolor) ready to spray paints and the Kosmic Clear clearcoats. I just got an air polisher and pads and hopefully my clearcoat jobs will look a whole lot better in the future. I am looking at HOK ready to spray kits over at tcpgolbal but the Komic Clear looks very complicated to m...

Re: Favorite Paints

I picked up an air polisher kit from Harbor Freight. The polisher has a max RPM of 2000 RPM's. It has a high and low speed setting. It also came with the velcro attachment head, 2 foam pads and a fluffy pad for final polishing. Maybe now my paint jobs will get somewhere remotely close to the "P...

Re: 2010 Test cars

What I can tell you is I sent out a car with basically the same design and shape and wheels. ... Thanks much for the data, Grubartez. Another question is whether adding fenders to an already fast car offers any advantage on final times. Sporty claims to "have tried this in the past and had no ...

Re: 2010 Test cars

The wheels running on this car are not the new style BSA wheels. They are the 3.3 g Jewkes old style wheel. The outer hub has been turned down/reduced in length to allow for them to be ran this way. Thanks much for the clarification. So then, what is the supposed advantage of turning the sidewalls ...

Re: 2010 Test cars

The track record at PDDR for standard BSA wheel base and unlightned wheels was just set by a car with rear fenders. :D Is this the car? ... There are very many interesting aspects to this design, especially the rear wheels with the sidewalls facing inward (presumably to deal with new double-step re...

Re: 3 wheels on one side

The PDDR Stock Class rules state that a car must have 4 wheels. However, since basically all the league racers are running a 3 wheeled rail rider, the raised 4 th wheel is in a since in the way. Since the rules do not say were the location of the wheels have to be, most racers opt to either move the...

Re: 2010 Test cars

Entertaining video, Sporty! Thanks for posting. A couple of questions... 1) Is what Glen said true about the tread being beveled? It was hard to tell from the video (frame 3:09 is about the clearest shot). I would likely fail inspector training. 2) Do you know if the other cars he was racing pure s...

Do you have to be live at this event or will a person be able to mail in a car? I would love to run a car on a 250 ft track.

Re: New BSA Wheel and Axle??

I think the new wheels are awesome !!!!! I tested a set straight of the shelf from the scout store. I did remove the double step on the outer hub. Whoever thought of that wasn't thinking very good. The only thing else I did was a normal prep on the bores for oil and balanced them with nail polish. T...

Re: The physics of areodynamics

Here's a body I have been working on off and on since November. I hope to have it wrapped this month or next. It was built to test out the aero theory. I've seen a couple run with a similar design and they were pretty fast. I thought it would be interesting anyways. http://i154.photobucket.com/album...
