Re: New builder needing help

So I ran the car at the scout event. It's best run was mid 2.7s. Which got me 9 in my class. There where 14 cars in my class.

Re: New builder needing help

None of the ones I have are either. I got it sitting how it was. It did take be patient. It basically done. However, my new issue is that his friends car is way faster than his. The friend come over to test on the track with parents and there car was much faster. I guess it's time to build a new car.

Re: New builder needing help

I'm starting to see it is all about the axles and wheels. I took them off to paint it. Now, having issue putting them back on where they where. I was going to put them in the drill to clean them up, and then look into some wheels. The wheels can't have any off, because they check with a microgramer.

Re: New builder needing help

Have you had good luck with the similar car? We have not got rules yet. They want to make some major changes, and I'm assuming they need approval. From what I hear, they want to make it more fair. Some folks are wanting us all to use a pre cut wedge body. The one they sell at the scout store. Those ...

Re: New builder needing help

I ended up building it as full body wedge car - no holes. I became concerned that there would have no been enough weight to hold it on the front end. The track we are racing on is much steeper than mine, and has alot more flat area then mine. Their track is a 42 foot best track. I did 2 ounce behind...

Re: New builder needing help

I like those weights because you easily remove them and reuse them if build fails. I will covering the holes with clear tape if we go that route. My son is more into the one big hole idea so I'm thinking with thicker side connections it could hold up. The track they race on is 42 foot best track tha...

Re: New builder needing help

I love weights. I found out about them though the build workshop. Their track is rough so they want the weights to screw into bottom or sides. You get 4 equal to 2 ounce for like $20. I have seen them online. However, I think it called hobby town usa. Where I get them. They can be easily cut down wi...

Re: New builder needing help

The weights are adjustable tungsten 1/2 ounce 3/8. I was drilling 5/16 holes with a spade bit, and then turning them in with an Allen head wrench. All of his other cars have 4 of these behind the axle, and then 2 of them at the point of slightly behind the inch point in front of the axle. Should I b...

Re: New builder needing help

I'm using the lead screw ins. We are using the drill press to make the holes, now. My son pulling down the control makes him feel apart of all this. I figured I would get a few wedge bodies from the scout store and we would do it. See how it works out. He could also do some hand sanding if we did la...

Re: New builder needing help

That car looks amazing! This weekend we are going to build one with hole like that. I would think the one large hole works better than all the small holes. To make it a apples to apples comparison, we are going to use the wedge style body. I figure we will make 2 cars this weekend. One that is just ...

Re: New builder needing help

I'm still waiting on new rules for this year. I ended up putting a slug style weight 1/2 ounce and two .20 weights 1 inch in front of rear axle. Front had roughly 1.4 ounce on it. I ended a slug style 1/2 ounce weight behind rear axle. It is noticable quicker. I'm going to start looking for issue wi...

Re: New builder needing help

My understanding of it was that they had been having too many "shabby" cars in their events, and this was their way of getting rid of the entry level builder. They where disappointed that people where coming with pre cut or what they call store buy cars. They want to keep their average car...

Re: New builder needing help

It is a scout car. I guess I'm trying to make sense of all this. This is only the 3rd car we are building. My son first car got build though a workshop our pack does. Basically, they told us what to bring. When we got there, a gentleman was assigned to help us build the car. They had all the tools a...

New builder needing help

We build a 3.5 ounce car that ran better than any of our 5 ounce cars. All the car had good alignment and weight place. The 3.5 ounce car had 1 ounce behind rear wheels - stock location, and 1/2 ounce right behind the 1 inch point in front of the axle. There is 5 inch between the wheels. All of them...
