Re: How many people participate in a Pinewood Derby National

You could also figure out how many 'scale' miles the cars have been ran. It would be cool to be able to give an award for boys that have raced 10, 15, 20 miles, etc. Not sure what the scale would be, but for simplicities sake, lets say the standard track would be 1/4 mile(just to have a number to wo...

Hmmm...interesting concept. I would love to hear from anyone who has tried it.

Re: Great, cheap and high resolution scale. $9.99.

What is the resolution of the Harbor Freight scale? I didn't see it in any of the posts or on the website. I need a good scale for PWD.

Re: Adding Reaction Time & Red Light to Start Gate

I agree with some of the other posts that using a start gate controlled by the racer would give an unfair advantage to some and would be especially disadvantageous to a cub with any kind of disability. Having a separate race for those boys using a standard starting gate, to me, would not be acceptab...

Are you using the PWD as a fund raiser? If so, interesting concept. Let us know how it goes.

Re: Starting gates & tree pics

I would love to see a short clip of it in action. It looks really cool. I can imagine boys spending hours 'drag racing' on a track with a starter like that. Are you going to configure this gate to be modular so a conventional start can be done, or will this be the only way to start the cars on your ...

Re: Possible Ebay Car at Districts

This is a very old thread, but if the original poster is still around, I would like to hear how this issue was dealt with. Parrot, I like the idea of stamping the cars, but how do you do it in such a way as to not limit the car design? I'm trying to think of where you could place a stamp or mark and...

Re: Track alinement problem

I had a slight issue with my freedom track, but after contacting Gary, he suggested making sure lane centers were the correct distance apart and that helped tremendously. Not sure why we didn't think of that. Also, are you trying to assemble the track by yourself? I had a friend help me and we still...

Re: Unfair Rules

I agree that the rules put a real damper on the fun of racing at the district derby. Our district race is open to everyone. There are some basic rules, but we try to keep it as simple as possible while trying to keep the playing field as level as possible. I like the suggestion someone made about jo...

I see you already got a reply regarding the anodized finish. I was going to tell you the same thing, that it is a silvery satin finish, not very dark.

Re: Extending Our Aluminum Track/ Need track sections.

Are you using electronics? If so, check the lengths of your cables before you make it longer. It would be a shame to add 10-12 feet to your track and then realize your cables are now 2 ft too short.

Open class races

We have always had a sibling/adult Open class race. When we purchased our timer/derby software several years ago, we changed the way we run the derby (at the pack level). We run all of the cars at one time, usually based on the order in which they were registered. There may be cars from different ra...

Re: The width of the track lane

Well, the minimum clearance between the pwd car wheels is 1 3/4", so your strip would have to be narrower than that. I believe the standard distance between strips is 3 1/2" from center.

Re: Anyone else have problems with the NewBold timer?

I'm not sure how long you've had the timer, but did you consider sending it back to Newbold? I sent our DT8000 back and they replaced the board in it. I'm having issues now with the Daytona bridge modules bowing over my 6 lane track. I'm sending back the bridge modules and they are going to replace ...

Re: District races - Using same car?

I think I would probably come down on the side of racing the car that won at the pack level, if that is the requirement to participate at district. What I would like to know, and this may be a little off topic, is what is the reasoning behind limiting who can race at district? We had a little over 5...
