Re: Graphite pads via water?
Hey everbody... wow, it has been a while!... I got busy with other things and didn't really pay much mind to how inactive I've been... My involvement with PWD is that we haven't raced in 2 years (son is too old, I'm not interested in league racing drama) ... about a month ago I helped our former Pac...

Graphite pads via water?
I know you can make some really fast cars using a mix of oil and graphite, forming essentially a bushing of 'graphite pads'.
Can you form the pads using water?
What happens when the water dries?
(thanks!)

Re: PWD Engineering
Simply outstanding! I love the concept of "moving parts allowed"... ;) There is a LOT you can do with that freedom. We were total lega-beagles when we were in Scouts... in a handful of years more, my son will be ready to really get into the "real world"... this would be a tremend...

Oil
The Council race last year subjected "stand out" candidates to a tear down inspection. Oil, explicitly illegal, was found in the "breakaway" group. No way yet to inspect for it identified. Request for a rule change to allow it... less mess, fair playing field.. denied. "Too ...

There isn't really going to be a follow-up here.

How do bores look after different uses?
What do wheel bores look like after a car is well broken in for the following lubes (post race, no relube):
1) graphite
2) oil
3) graphite/oil mixed
(using 10X magnification, what should you see?)

Re: The nut job !
Our aggressive inspections have caught on with praise around here but now folks want us to speed up the inspection from a 3 hour window to 1-1/2 hours... as an example. But they still want the thorough inspection so we are trying to address that by getting more volunteers. That said: yes, if you tak...

Re: Controlling Cant at checking
The rules I enforced this year said the wheels had to run flat. My interpretation was if me or the owner could massage the wheels on the car sitting on a flat surface to be flat, it was legal. Any cant this allows was "within the error of a boy scout building the car". If me nor the owner ...

I'm guessing that the ONLY reason the "ambassador" didn't have pointy ears was also for fear of a Trek-infringement lawsuit.
Or were they pointy?

Re: South Park "Pinewood Derby" Episode (13.06)
The enginerd in me had at least 2 technical complaints: 1) why'd they bother with stating the car weighed in at 15oz when anyone who has ever built from a kit w/out weights knows you are much less than 5oz... and besides, perhaps the 1 rule that everyone seems to enforce well is the weight limit... ...

Re: South Park "Pinewood Derby" Episode (13.06)
Call me sick but I snuck it past the wifey and had fun watching it :) I just tune out the rough edges... not one for the younger kiddies though, not even with a finger on the "fast forward" button. (or older kiddies for that matter) Think the rating is MA (Mature Adult)? That should be the...

Re: How much is 15/1000's of a second on the track?
That does not seem correct to me. I gotta say, that i know 1/10th of a second is about a little over 1/4 car length. 2/10ths of a second is around a little over 1/2 a car length and 3/10ths of a second is a full car length and a tad more. by all my testing. So I think you are talking way less than ...
